What is the Owl Employment Program?

It's a comprehensive program whereby our members, are integrated into your company's existing workforce as paid employees. This is a fully supported process that assists the employer with all aspects of training and ongoing follow-up.

What is the cost to the employer?

The employer is simply expected to pay a placement employee at a fair and competitive rate for the task at hand. Our training and support services are provided at no cost to the employer

On-the-job training

Once an individual has secured a position, the Job Coach is trained on the job by the employer. The Job Coach then develops a training strategy which is most suitable for the placement employee and proceeds to actively train them on the job. The Job Coach remains available to the employer and co-workers as an on-going resource during the integration process.

Follow-up support

As the individual becomes more confident in their position, the Job Coach begins to fade out their involvement in order to promote greater independence and integration. However, the Job Coach will continue to visit the placement employee and employer on-site to ensure a positive long-term relationship.

The Owl Employment Program is one of several supports operated by the Y's Owl Maclure Co-Operative Centre. The Y's Owl Maclure Co-Operative Centre was formed in April 1999 with the merger of two pre-existing non-profit organizations, Y's Owl Co-Op and the K.C. Maclure Habilitation Centre, which were established in 1980, and 1985 respectively. The Centre's goal is to provide an environment that fosters personal growth, opportunity, and dignity for adults with disabilities.
